Professor Nolan is a strong advocate of the
Constitution and the
Bill of Rights .
His hobbies include the study of internal martial
arts -- Taijiquan and Aikido -- as
well as recreational and competitive defensive pistol shooting.

He holds the rank of Ikkyu, or first-degree brown belt, in
Seidokan
Aikido, and practices at the USC Dojo.

He is an NRA-certified range safety officer, an NRA-certified pistol and personal defense instructor, and is certified by SLED to teach concealable weapons
permit classes -- CWP -- in South
Carolina.

Competing as a Marksman,
in the Stock Service Revolver Division of the International
Defensive Pistol Association, he placed second in his class and division in the
2003 South Carolina State IDPA Championship Match, and first in 2005.

In September 2005, he achieved the classification of
Sharpshooter in the Stock Service Revolver Division,
and placed first in his class and division in the South Carolina State IDPA Championship Match in 2006.
-
In May of 2007, he achieved the classification of Sharpshooter
in the Stock Service Pistol Division.
- In October of 2007, he achieved the classification
of Sharpshooter in the Custom Defensive Pistol Division (1911-A1).
- In 2007 he started shooting
USPSA
with his S&W M&P-9; he currently holds the "D" classification in the Production Division.
