South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology (SCIAA) is the legal repository for all state archaeological site files. The Information Management Division curates site forms, maps, and other supporting documentation. The Site File Manager coordinates all use of these documents; represents the interests of the state in the use of these documents with other agencies and the public; assigns site numbers; and, has final say over the quality and acceptance of site forms. In addition, the Site File Manager provides additional services to researchers such as Environmental Site Assessments for a nominal fee. At present, there are over 20,000 sites recorded for South Carolina (Figure). |
