The Department of Religious Studies established an undergraduate program in 1968 and added the master's degree in 1988. Our programs are interdisciplinary, drawing students and faculty from across the Liberal Arts spectrum. Undergraduate and graduate courses cover the historical, theological, social, and cultural dimensions of world religions. Our associate faculty program includes over twenty professors from English, History, Philosophy, Anthropology, Political Science, and Comparative Literature.
The mission of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of South Carolina is to further the understanding of the religious dimension of human life and culture, through the study of its many expressions. It creates a forum for intellectual interaction and dialogue on issues of particular interest to our society and community.
