Neal Woods’ research and teaching interests are in public administration, public policy, and American politics. His research focus lies at the nexus of political institutions and public policy, with an emphasis on how differing institutional arrangements affect policy outcomes. To date, his research has primarily studied the relationship of bureaucratic actors to their external political environment, including elected officials and interest groups. Other current research projects look at joint federal-state policy implementation and the policy role of state governors. His work has been published in the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory and Policy Studies Journal
Professor Woods received his doctoral education at the University of Kentucky, where he specialized in Public Policy and Administration and American Politics. Prior to that he was a student at the University of Kansas, where he received bachelor’s degrees in Economics, Business Administration, and Political Science. Both Kansas and Kentucky won NCAA men’s basketball championships during his tenure at those schools, a tradition he expects to continue at USC.
