- Committee on Applied Fluvial Geomorphology - At
the fall, 2003 business meeting of the Quaternary Geology and Geomorphology
Divison of the Geological Society of America, Steve Kite formed
an ad hoc Applied Fluvial Geomorphology Committee to produce a position
paper expressing the importance of fluvial geomorphology as traditionally
taught in higher education. The broader purpose of the committee and
its views are spelled out in the introduction to the position
paper. Distribution of this paper for further review, discussion, and
revision was unanimously approved by the GSG at the
2004 business meeting in Philadelphia. Please read the statement and
distribute it to others who may be interested in this topic. members
- Questionnaires - A series of three questionnaires
have been developed in order to better assess the present nature of the fluvial
geomorphology curriculum as actually taught in universities and as perceived
by practitioners. If you have taught fluvial geomorphology in the
past ten years or so, or if you have other experience in the field, please
take some time to fill out and submit these questionnaires. This will enable
us to determine not only what topics are being taught, but also what topics
ought to be covered. Furthermore, we hope to break down these responses
by various categories. Results will be widely disseminated. Your
cooperation is greatly appreciated.
